Every artist from Ghana has their own special kind of style. I came across Sarkodie and instantly became very interested in his particular sound. Sarkodie has a way of entwining English and Ghanian slang together with such a nice flow that makes you think oh snap let me hear something else. One song that stuck out to me the most was Adonai, he talks about the powers of God the almighty, how he was saved from his troubled past by the lord.
I knew the song would was interesting but did not know exactly what he was saying so I had to look up the lyrics. He talks about his relationship with God and how if you believe and praise God he can save you as well. So while looking up the lyrics I wanted to know a bit more about Sarkodie and what his story was really about that made him spit those words he spoke so passionately in this song. Sarkodie was born Michael Owusu Addo, in Tema, Ghana to his single mother Emma Maame Aggrey. He began rapping at a very young age in his childhood, he started as an underground rapper. Through his Rap battles he met his first, now former, manager Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment. He also meets two popular artist Edem and Castro which eventually lead to the meeting of Hammer of the Last Two an established record produce at the time who featured him in many songs. After numerous underground rap competition wins he finally gets signed with JM Entertainment. And from 2009 on he has been blooming dropping albums and singles back to back. He got so popular in African and oversees he was featured in the cypher of the BET hiphop awards and even won a BET award.
