There is a need for more recognition of Zimbabwean female artists. When doing my research, I found it harshly difficult to discover various Southern African female artists. The rap industry in Africa is dominated by mostly men, with women having to voice their opinions about such oppression. On my discovery, I came across Nadia Nakia. In one of her songs released in 2022, Nadia Nakai’s “Never Leave” featuring KashCPT, it discusses dedication and loyalty. The lyrics within the song’s context refer to a promise to always remain by someone’s side, no matter what. It highlights how crucial it is to support and stand by those you love through good and bad times. Regarding women’s issues, “Never Leave” by Nadia Nakai, featuring Kashcpt, speaks about empowerment, resiliency, and unity through various themes. The core of the song explores a story of unwavering commitment and loyalty, which, when considered in the context of women’s experiences, can be seen as a potent statement. Fundamentally, “Never Leave” emphasizes women’s strength and resolve in relationships, hence embodying a sense of freedom for women.
It acts as a proclamation of agency, emphasizing that women can make their own decisions and choose their paths. This story supports the larger feminist movement by empowering women to speak up for themselves and oppose cultural norms that could restrict their freedom. Furthermore, the song’s emphasis on resilience has important implications for the conversation about women’s experiences. It recognizes the difficulties and barriers that women frequently encounter but also emphasizes their capacity to triumph over misfortune. “Never Leave” pays homage to a woman’s determination, honoring their ability to deal with adversity and come out stronger on the other side of it. The message of the song also heavily emphasizes the idea of female unity. It emphasizes the value of female connections and partnerships while bringing attention to the networks for encouragement that women depend on. The message of the song’s lyrics, which emphasize how women should support one another and stand together, is one of solidarity and togetherness.
