Africa is the future of hip-hop. It’s 54 African nations. Not only are they spitting like crazy, but they’re also braiding languages. Hip-hop is going to like 3.0 when you talk about Africa. Hip-hop is there. So that’s the sustaining power if you want to pay attention to it. – Chuck D

Eugene Entsir known as Eugy is a Ghanaian, British, rapper, and singer. Born in Accra, Ghana, and raised in London, UK. Started writing at the age of 14, at first Eugy started as a grime MC, but when he noticed he wasn’t good, he started leaning more into afro beats which led to rap as well.  Eugy is a now newly Christian artist and talks about his life through his music, which he does in his single, “Man on a Mission”.  Eugy got his big break when fellow artist Davido reached out to him and saw his freestyle that he posted online. He is mostly known for his hit song with Mr. Eazi, “Dance for Me” which was released in 2016 and was nominated for a MOBO award in 2017.

The song “Man on a Mission” is about determination, self-discovery, and having faith within yourself. The song will take you into an idyllic isolation of inner strength. The song starts with a gospel melody and piano playing as well. With reflective lyrics about trusting each other in a world where this is betrayal everywhere, especially in Ghana where there is political corruption. The government is not being truthful to the citizens of Ghana. He also points out how hard it is to leave relationships that have been toxic. I take this song as two ways of meaning, one as we fight to surround ourselves with people that can bring positivity around us and make us do better and another one as we should be on a mission to fight for what we deserve as the citizens in Ghana.

The lyrics in the chorus, “Clear eyes for the vision, Momma said she used to pray I would change I would listen”. Eugy is admiring his mother in these lyrics because she knew that he would eventually make it in this life and it’s good to see that his mother saw the vision because sometimes it takes other people to see the great in you before you can see it in yourself.
