Alright, alright, alright. Shobee has graced his fans with another hit. Since his split from rap duo Shayfeen, Shobee’s solo run in the scene has been sparse, but notable. In 2023, Shobee released his album, Howls. Since then, the rapper has dropped song collaborations here and there. Last week, however, Shobee dropped his new single, “Machi M3ana”.
The first listen had me absolutely hooked. It immediately begins with a beat drop that progresses into a fast beat. Although it’s a faster-paced piece, the intensity grasps your attention and locks you in. Even as I type this, I can’t help but listen to “Machi M3ana”.
With the help of my friends Genius and Google Translate, I was able to interpret his song. In the chorus, Shobee essentially rejects fakeness and disingenuous energy. Further along, he establishes his role in the Moroccan rap scene– he has been here and will continue to stay. Throughout the 2 minutes and 33 seconds of his new single, he establishes his position in the scene and his intention to stay.
In the Moroccan rap scene, one thing has been made clear– authenticity is important. Shobee’s energy throughout the song and music video has made this clear. The music video for Machi M3ana” consists of Shobee rapping in the center of a large group. All the attention is on him as he raps his message. What I appreciate the most, though, are the aesthetics of his music video. The blue color grade, the graininess, and the bright strobe lighting are just a chef’s kiss.
As I close this semester’s blog posts, I can definitely say that I closed off with a bang. I thoroughly enjoyed Shobee’s song. It gives me just the right hype energy I need to lock in on homework or the gym. The aesthetics of the video were great and matched the vibe of the song perfectly. Two things are certain, though: Shobee is definitely here to stay and has gained a new fan along the way.
