Professionally known as Riky Rick, Rikhado Makhado, is a rapper, songwriter and actor hailing from South Africa. Though he is an artist, he is primarily known for his prominence within the local fashion scene. Despite this and like many other music moguls he is the owner os a record label named “Cotton Club Records”.
Though originally a member of the popular crew Boyz N Bucks, he notoriously gained fame with the release of his single titled “Nafukwa” in 2014. Two years later he would capitalize on that fame to partner with a variety of brands, including Russian Bear, a vodka brand, and Vaseline. However, 2019 was the real highlight of his musical career when he headlined at the first concert thrown by his record label called “Cotton Fest”.
Having produced over 10 singles an EPs since his initial release in 2014, he has cemented himself into the popular consciousness of South African hip hop connoisseurs. This is a fact further proved by the award that he has received in that time period. He received two nominations at the 2014 Channel O awards, four at the 2014 South African Hip Hop Awards and one nomination at the 2014 South African Music Awards.
This was my first time listening to South African music, let alone South African Rap and I enjoyed the experience. Riky Rick has a nice flow and I look forward to exploring his music more.
