Somnyama Yena Yedwa: Blxckie

Sihle Sithole, also known as Blxckie, is a South African Rapper from Sydenham Heights, Durban. The foundation of his rap career started when he was only 8 years old just making music with his friends and the rest was history. Barely knew English but wrote poems to improve the language, wrote his own pieces, and performed on stage. He felt like the poetry he was writing was rap music so he took that and ran with it. In Durban, South Africa, he was just a student in college until the Covid-19 lockdown. When that roadblock came he used this time to maximize himself to other artists. Early, that month he was named “Up Next” Artist by Apple Music

Fast forward to his prime in 2021 he won freshman of the year and was nominated for his latest album which is called B4 Now. Song of the Year (“Ye ×4”) and Best Collaboration at the South African Hip Hop Awards 2021. In December 2021, he ranked number 1 on MTV Base: SA’s Hottest MCs

The 2020 Music Video “Big Time Sh’lappa” by Blxckie carried the South African culture with a trap-fueled, upbeat flow, even though it was just rap punchlines the flow was very dope. This song got him into the spotlight in a matter of days. His feature Lucascrap came in and kept the flow going with the fast rapping. Blxckie also explains why he says “Ye Ye Ye” in his songs a lot, because he feels like its a great adlib to put in the middle of his songs. His energy and level of excitement for listeners may argue that he may be what’s missing from South African Hip-Hop. His latest Album is B4Now which is a collection of songs that explains his path, showcasing a melodic and R&B approach, and switches between flows, all while maintaining his exceptional flow.
