Simbiatu Ajikawo aka Little Simz is a Nigerian British rapper whose reach spans across the world. Her passion flows through each lyric she raps. A lot of her music is personal and draws from intimate moments of her life. Simz grew up performing and decided to pursue music full time in her early 20s. As a performer Little Simz also acts and played a supporting role in the top hit british drama ‘Top Boy’. Little Simz has gotten co-signs from many greats in the industry such as Kendrick Lemar and Stormzy. Simz is also known to work closely with producer Inflo and the Sault collective.
In the end of 2022 Little Simz released her album ‘NO THANK YOU’. This title is a double entendra which can be interpreted as no thank you or no, thank you. This nine album track came as a surprise and continues on Simz’s legacy as an artist who is always searching within their soul for some answers. Each track on this album has its own unique sound with a similar message. The message goes beyond just be yourself but to be honest about who you are whenever you are – even if others aren’t.
No Merci means no thank you in French. Once again, Simz uses a double entendra to also mean no mercy. Simz slides on the synths and bass with ease. This song tells the story of Simz’s troubles when first entering into the industry. Although she came into the industry with the intentions of making a dream come true and spreading a message, she was not prepared for the wolves in sheeps clothing that she would encounter. Simz is able to overcome and encourages black people to shine in life without shame. This song reads as a freestyle. Simz flows straight through to the end.
