NewMusic: Blaklez Steps Into 2021 With Brand New EP, “Don't Mind The BS”

Lesego Moiloa, professionally known as Blaklez, is recognized for his storytelling, conscious lyrics, and focus on societal issues. From the capital of South Africa, Pretoria, Blaklez is a prevalent rapper, songwriter, and producer. Known for his hit single “Freedom of Fame Reloaded,” it gained 545,685 plays on Spotify.

“Mind Yours” by Blaklez is about staying focused on yourself, protecting your peace, and refusing to get pulled into other people’s business or negativity. After researching the song, I do not know if the song/song title has any influence with J. Cole’s “Love Yours” but the title itself is the message—mind your own life, your own growth, and your own goals. In the song, Blaklez reflects a mature mindset, emphasizing that peace comes from discipline, self-awareness, and setting boundaries with people who bring distractions or drama.

The track, from his album Price of Peace, also highlights deeper themes of healing and personal growth. Blaklez encourages listeners to take accountability for their own lives instead of comparing themselves to others, and to protect their mental and emotional space. Overall, the song delivers a calm but firm reminder that real progress and stability come when you stay in your lane and prioritize your own well-being.

I’d rate “Mind Yours” about a 7/10 overall. The sound is smooth and laid-back, more on the conscious/reflective side than the mainstream U.S. vibe, so it might not immediately grab you if you’re used to more melodic hooks or high-energy beats. But it’s still easy to listen to and feels intentional, like something you’d play when you’re in a calm, focused mood.

Where the song really stands out is in the lyrics and message. The theme of protecting your peace, setting boundaries, and focusing on your own growth is very relatable—especially as a young Black individual navigating life, goals, and relationships. Even if the sound isn’t exactly what you usually play, the message hits and feels mature and grounding, so it’s the kind of track you respect and might come back to when you need that reminder to stay in your lane and prioritize yourself.

In conclusion, “Mind Yours” by Blaklez stands as a thoughtful and intentional piece of conscious hip-hop that prioritizes growth, discipline, and inner peace. While its laid-back, reflective sound may differ from the high-energy style often heard in mainstream U.S. music, its message is universally relatable and especially meaningful for young Black women navigating boundaries, mental health, and personal success. The song reminds listeners that true progress comes from self-focus, accountability, and protecting one’s energy.

Ultimately, even for someone who does not typically listen to South African hip-hop, “Mind Yours” offers a valuable perspective and a calming, affirming listening experience. It may not immediately become a daily favorite, but its message leaves a lasting impression—encouraging you to stay grounded, mind your own journey, and move with purpose and peace.
