Marwan Pablo was born Marwan Ahmed Metaweh on November 22, 1996 in his hometown of Alexandria, Egypt. Twenty-four years later, he is one the country’s biggest stars.

Metawah’s career started in 2015 under the name “Dama.” He is considered one of the pioneers of what is considered “Egyptian trap music.” His career really got boosted when he was featured in the documentary titled “Rabka.” Today, according to Vice Media and himself, Marwan is considered “Egypt’s Godfather of Trap.” He changed his name to Marwan Pablo. This was a reference to Pablo Escobar and Pablo Picasso, as he mentions in his single, “Free.” He has been pursuing many avenues within the music industry. He is an acknowledged rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He started off writing all of his own lyrics, and branching off as a producer from there.
He has made a decent impact on the rap scene within Egypt. On Spotify alone, he has 98.5 thousand monthly listeners. He has a slew of hits, including “Free,” “El Gemeza,” and “SINdBAD.”
In February of 2020, Marwen Pablo decided to retire himself. He claimed various reasons, as pertaining to personal and religious. He himself said the most direct sources for this self imposed retirement was “the pressure that was forced on him, the different levels of expectations that people have cornered him within, and the constant labeling.” He even completely wiped his YouTube channel along with his Instagram account, taking this very seriously. He insisted on needing a break from the music industry.
However, he made his return in a dramatic fashion over a year later. Out of the blue, he uploaded his returning single, “Ghaba,” on February 25, 2021 (in Egyptian time, the 24th in the United States). Already, he has garnered over 150 thousand views in the first 90 minutes of the posting.
