Hip Hop artist have emerged from each country in Africa. All of these artists thrive for stardom and success. With each artist also comes the hope to gain recognition for Africa as the new up and coming Hip Hop “scene” globally. Hip Hop artists want to achieve the success and recognition that so many American artists have been able to reach. African Hip Hop artist from every country in Africa can work together to finally achieve this.

Uganda native Daniel Lubwama Kigozi, known commonly by his stage name, “Navio” has been a fundamental figure in Hip Hop music in Africa. Navio began his career as a member of the hip hop group, Klear Kut. This group helped create the popularity of the Hip Hop genre in Uganda, and even created the term “Ugaflow,” which described Uganda’s hip hop scene. Navio had the most success however, as a solo artist. Navio had multiple hit songs, including his song “On and On” with Keith Sweat, a legend in America. Navio has been in the Hip Hop industry for over 20 years, and is the most awarded East African Hip Hop artist of all time. In 2020, Navio released his latest album titled “Strength in Numbers.” This album was intended to emphasize how much African Hip Hop artist can accomplish when they come together.

One of the songs on the album is titled, “ABAANA BEEKA” featured Joh Makini (Tanzanian native) and Flex D’Paper (another Ugandan native). The music video has over 36,000 views despite being released in September 2020. The song features a catchy melody along with a catchy chorus. It’s one of those songs that makes you feel good and makes you want to dance, or even fist pump to it. By making this song and featuring these other artists, Navio is contributing to the gaining of recognition for these artists. By introducing them to his fan base, he’s helping them to gain a fan. Navio’s album features 12 different African artist.

Navio is using his success to build up the success of other African Hip Hop artists. He believes that they all need each other to gain the recognition and success they desire. Working together and being united is the way to further African Hip Hop artists’ career. African Hip Hop artists can expand their fan bases and success by using each other to make each other better, and to advance. Leading Africa to finally be recognized for the phenomenal Hip Hop scene that is present in every country in the continent.
