Mixtape by: Saniya Licorish

“I’m That B*tch” is a curated mixtape that explores how misogynistic language by female rappers can be utilized as both empowering and oppressive. Featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Shaybo, the project highlights how each artist reclaims misogynistic language to assert dominance, success, and self-worth. At the same time, their lyrics reveal how this empowerment is often rooted in comparison, competition, and the dismissal of other women, reinforcing the same patriarchal and misogynistic standards they resist. By examining both direct and indirect tensions (especially among the U.S.-based artists) the mixtape also highlights how rivalry continues to shape the landscape of women in hip hop. Ultimately, the project invites listeners to critically consider whether female empowerment in the hip-hop industry can be fully realized when it is built within frameworks that rely on the marginalization of others.
