2026 is the year we bring back 2016– or what I keep seeing on TikTok. Those were my middle school days: Andy’s coming challenge, chokers, but most importantly, hip-hop. For this week’s blog post, I dug through the archives and decided to catch up with French Montana.
French Montana is a Casablanca-born rapper who immigrated to the Bronx, New York. One thing is certain about French Montana: he embraces his roots and wears his pride on his chest. A lot of his music is a blend of his homes, a fusion of Moroccan with American hip-hop. More specifically, he represents New York through his music.
In January 2026, French Montana released his song “Ever Since U Left Me” featuring Max B, as a part of their Coke Wave franchise. In this song, French Montana includes themes such as loss, loyalty, and luxury.
What really hooked me was the 107 BPM throughout the beat of the song. It’s catchy, repetitive, and makes you tap your toes. I can definitely say that the energy of this song makes me want to dance. The vibe of the song definitely gives confident, IDC vibes that definitely exude the message of this track.
Essentially, French Montana is telling the story of acquiring more wealth, more attention, and more luxuries. He is winning, and we all definitely have to know. One of the repeating lines from this track is “I went deaf on a b*tch”. Could he literally be blowing off an ex? Or are they metaphorically just blowing distractions away? Either way, the energy is there: we are independent and successful.
Overall, I thought this was a fun, energetic song. The beat was catchy and makes you want to dance along, whether or not I relate to the message. It is always great to see how an artist has grown and changed over the years. While this song isn’t necessarily an ode to his Moroccan heritage, it is clear he is taking it back to his New York background.
