Introduction
Released in 2025, “N*ggas In Fashion” by Ugandan artists Axon and Denim Cartel stands out from the songs I’ve previously written about. Unlike the other tracks, this one is performed in English, which makes it significantly easier for me to interpret and engage with the lyrics. Listening through the lyric video, it becomes evident that the song isn’t just about clothing or surface-level style; it’s about confidence and identity.
Lyrics & Vocals
The lyrics rely on repetition to emphasize visibility and success. Lines like “they wanna know what a n*gga doing in London” and “they wanna know what a n*gga putting in fashion” suggest scrutiny from outsiders watching as they rise. These two lines together represent Black people shaping culture. Repeated lines of “too many gyal, too many fine ladies” and “too many brand new Mercedes” highlight abundance, luxury, and the rewards of their lifestyle. Even lines like “breakfast from Kanjis, take a nice picture send it” refer to success and living well, letting others see it.
A female voice then entered with “you heard me on the radio” and “focused on the green now I’m living healthy,” the theme expands to recognition and growth, with “green” symbolizing both money and prosperity. “Ha ha ha n*ggas laugh is wealthy” and “drip slipping like it’s free” imply that even their joy is rooted in success. They’ve made it to a point where they can genuinely enjoy the rewards of their hard work. Together, the vocals create a celebratory tone that blends fashion, fame, and financial success into one message.
Visually
The music video visually reinforces the song’s themes of luxury and confidence. Shot in black and white, it gives everything an elevated vibe. Throughout the video, the artists are shown in a store being fitted and trying on high-end clothing, which directly connects to the repeated lyric about “putting in fashion.” These visual aspects show how they’re curating style.
The visuals also highlight symbols of status and success. There are shots of luxury cars and beautiful women, which align with the lyrics about “too many fine ladies” and “brand new Mercedes.” In other scenes, they’re in what looks like a high-class lounge, smoking cigars and drinking, embodying an atmosphere of exclusivity and wealth. Altogether, the black-and-white aesthetic paired with these upscale settings creates a polished vibe that matches the song’s message of influence, abundance, and drip.
Personal Thoughts
Personally, I enjoyed the song from the first listen, because it was in English. Being able to clearly understand the lyrics made it easier for me to fully grasp the message without having to rely on translation. That allowed me to pay closer attention to the themes of confidence and success. For so long, luxury and high fashion have often excluded or overlooked Black people, so watching them place themselves in a setting where they’re shaping trends and thriving internationally is a statement. This song is about ownership and visibility.
