Underground rapper EoNTHEGREAT is so underground, that I could find little about him besides his music and his hometown of Walvis Bay, Namibia. He has but 86 subscribers on YouTube and 96 subscribers on SoundCloud. He released his first album in 2019 called Rise of the Sun on Soundcloud, he incorporates poetry in his first song on the album “A Day in the E”. Which I hate to say is far better than his rap. His flow is off-beat and a bit disjointed but some of the messages and creativity to his music are unique and likable. In his song “Forefathers” on the 2019 album he expresses his gratitude and honoring of his ancestors and their plight, though I don’t prefer the way he sounds when he expresses this, I find the theme fruitful when showcased in Hip Hop.
He continues referencing his cultural experience in the first song “Black” on his second album from 2020 The Equinox as well as his song “DNA” on his third album from 2021 The Forever Tape. His connection to his culture and experience as a black man is a theme held in at least one song on every one of his albums. This has become almost a requirement for Hip Hop artists to honor cultural experience in their music. His music is overwhelmingly positive and upbeat, I imagine there would be plenty of people that enjoy his sound despite him having so little following. He projects confidence and self-support through his art, his Hip Hop persona, and his MC name itself. His song “I SHINE” reflects this sentiment. He features names for himself with this sentiment like Eon the Greatest and King Eon etc. I respect that he does his best to sing many of his choruses, with a bit of autotune but a multifaceted and brave artist nonetheless. He is certainly worth checking out if you want to support recent underground artists with their own sense of style!
