The Hip Hop African

Bouncy Bouncy is a young, vivacious and controversial Hip hop artist who is knows by far as the best dancer ever in Botswana. She is a woman in an industry that is dominated by men and generally seems to be demeaning to women, especially with regards to the lyrics of some rap songs. She is proving to be a force to reckon with in the male dominated local Hip Hop industry.

BouncyBouncy is also known to be full of confidence and has the flow to back it up. She once spoke about being an Alpha Female:

“Challenges of being considered a female rapper, or being looked at as soft and incapable of getting over the huddles of hip hop culture, that on its own would make a normal girl feel inferior, but like I mentioned before I am an ALPHA FEMALE, I am a girl destined to rule, I have convinced myself that nothing can stop me, therefore that’s it”

1. Twerk star-cum-hip-hop singer Bouncy’s real name is Maureen Maila.
2. The Gabane native is a twelve time champion in Botswana’s  dance society and a professional choreographer
3. Bouncy highlighted that her music is more dance hall type influenced by artists like Dermaco, vybz cartel and country songbird Jo Dee Messina.
4. She recently traveled to Harare where she had an amazing show at the Green concert featuring international names such as Winnie Khumalo and Ringo Madlingozi.
5. Bouncy is a confident and liberal musician who portrays the sexuality in her music with her provocative dance moves and outfits. She believes sex sells and she is not ashamed to put on some really raunchy dance moves to portray her art.
6. She stripped for the fans at the Botswana’s 50th Independence pre-party celebrations at Serokolwane Farms near Gaborone during Easter Holidays.
7. Her behind is one that could give the likes of Kim Kadarshian a run for their money and coupled with that sweet sultry voice, girl might be set for greater heights.
8. Bouncy said that “my appearance is more of a team work, my manager Mischelle Gaofano (off campus events) and I. We design and create my outfits.”
9. Forever controversial, on this year’s birthday of the President wrote this on her wall: “Happy birthday babe.”
10. Earlier this year she hinted moving to Asia to grow her talent, and then after she gets established her main focus is Hollywood.

Below is a rehearsal video of bouncy twerking and showing off her skills that she would be using to perform. As seen evident from this video, Bouncy uses her ability to “twerk” as a female hip-hop artist to attract listeners that would also be drawn to watching her dance. Instead of her seeing this as being provocative, she she’s this as a source of entertainment to draw viewers.
