Boubacar Diallo better known by his stage name “Bouba Savage” was born in Conakry, Guinea where he spent 10 years of his childhood with his mother and siblings before moving to Cortland Ave in the Bronx, NY with his father. When Bouba came to New York City he didn’t speak English however he soon was acclimated to the culture and began rapping at the age of 12. Bouba gained notoriety for his music and how young he was and the nature of what he was saying in his music. I’ve always been a fan of Bouba and this assignment made me realize that he was actually born in and spent a significant amount of his life in Africa. The video/song I’ve decided to focus in on is Bouba’s song, “Ain’t Care About Me”, I feel like we see a more refined and vulnerable Bouba on this track and the video has strong visuals. The storyline of this video is that Bouba was arrested for robbing a candy store and he raps in the song how he feels the world doesn’t care about him. Bouba says, “they ain’t care bout me/ I got some fame now they care bout me/ keep telling me I’m bouta blow up”. You can always hear Bouba in his music talking about his struggles from coming from humble beginnings and rising to prominence. Bouba is always posting photos dressed up in traditional Guinea clothing, representing his muslim faith and even rapping in Fulani sometimes. Bouba has hinted at even going back to Africa to perform and he often talks about his childhood growing up in Africa from his experience in school to doing videos eating traditional Guinean food. Bouba never strays away from his African heritage even now that he is fully immersed in American culture. I hope that Bouba continues to grow in his career and represent his home country, he definitely has a fan in me.
