The hip-hop scene, globally, is ever-evolving. It is so diverse and constantly changing. Very few songs stand out like this one. This song combines some of the best talent out of the Liberian hip-hop space. MC Caro, Davy C, and Bucky Raw are a few of the most talented Liberian rappers, and that shows in this fire song, “Tupee”!

The beat of the song is unique and upbeat, instantly making the listeners want to catch the beat. Lyrically, all of the artists bring their own swag to the table that makes the song very balanced but not redundant. As someone who has analyzed an MC Caro song on this blog before, I can confidently say her flow and her representation are becoming one of my favorites in the hip-hop world. I feel represented with her for some reason. The use of features in the song plays to the advantage of Davy C.

The title, “Tupee”, is slang that comes from the men’s hairpiece, a toupee. The artists used this slang as a play on words, calling out all the phonies that put on a front for appearances. Toupees are used to dress up and create a false perception about who one is. This resonates with not only the hip-hop scene but the overall pop culture scene, which some can argue is largely influenced by hip-hop.

My message to readers after listening to the song is to be who you are, unapologetically. Don’t get me wrong, I myself will get dolled up, maybe put on some makeup, or have fallen victim to materialism, buying stuff I don’t need for looks. But “Tupee” reminds us that the front we put on is not who we truly are. As my favorite hip-hop artist of all time said, “Love Yourz”- J. Cole.

Shoutout to Davy C, MC Caro, and Bucky Raw for masterfully making this culture a significant hit with a powerful message. As Lil Durk showed us, 3 headed goats do exist.
