Sierra Leone’s HipHop artist, Shadow Boxxer, released a new inspirational single, “Deliver Us From Us”, on March 1st, 2026. This reflective song shows vulnerability while Shadow Boxxer reflects on realizations he has made throughout life.

The song starts with slow and classical music, lacking in drums or bass. This sets the tone for a vulnerable message to be heard and properly interpreted and received by his listeners. As he starts rapping on the instrumental, his tone shows passion and genuine feelings. This, again, creates the atmosphere for him to be emotional through his lyrics.
Shadow Boxxer starts the song off by asking why it has to be him that has these thoughts and that has to make these connections. Rather than dwelling on being burdened with this knowledge, he states that “in God we trust,” saying that he trusts in his religion to support him through his issues. He later states, “through these words, my tongue is the brush and the people that I love is the canvas.” This is a beautiful way of saying that he wants to use his words and his rapping ability to spread his love to his loved ones. He raps with passion about this person he loves and it is clear how strong this love is.
Shadow Boxxer uses this song to take accountability for his actions and his growth, but this doesn’t prevent him from critiquing society and his political concerns. This is a great duality to have in a HipHop song, as they originally were meant to spread a strong message. This artist does a great job of spreading his message in a song that is pleasant to listen to.
He ends his song with a spoken message reflecting on his actions, his loved ones and peers, his future, and his purpose. He wants to inspire younger generations of Sierra Leone and claims that as his role. He speaks in a genuine tone, making his message easily heard and received. Shadow Boxxer is a great HipHop artist and I will continue to listen to his music.
