I was looking for different artists to do my blog post on. I realized that people from Madagascar have different types of music they would further want to explore. Some used words and beats. Others would use unique instruments and not say anything. However, I came across an artist named OBOY. Mihaja Ramiarinarivo was born on January 6th, 1997. As he was born in Madagascar, later his family moved to Villeneuve-Saint Georges which is located in France. He was the eldest of three kids being the only boy. His father was the one who introduced him to a variety of music including Bob Marley and Tupac Shakur.

He raps in a very interesting way. In the early 2010s, there was a new style of rap that started to become popular on an app called SoundCloud. It was called mumble rap style. The name implies that artists either will mumble or have unclear vocal delivery when making their music. It has been used to describe artists who don’t share the regular emphasis of meaningful lyricism. He also had hip hop and trap music that he would test out from time to time. When he was 17, friends of his former collective Way Boto invited him to start recording music. They helped him to grow his first EP called “Olyside” which consisted of mostly trap and cloud rap. After that in March 2018 came another EP called “Southside” which ended with his first album “Omega”.

His big break would come around his second album “No Crari”. This album came to number 3 on the French Albums chart in September 2021. A specific song called “TDB” later topped the French singles chart for five weeks. It reached 68 million streams by December and that meant getting platinum for beating 50 million. Every artist usually compares themself to a person who inspired them. For OBOY he said ASAP Rocky and Migos were who he felt made him the artist he is today.
