
Gandhi Alimasi Djuna, or Maître Gims, was born in Gandhi Bilel Djuna in 1986. When he was younger his family moved to France where he was raised. He came from a family of musicians and was always inspired and involved in music at a young age. His parents were undocumented and because of his parents hiding, he explains having had a difficult childhood. He was placed with foster families, before living in squats until he was 18 years old. He grew up with thirteen siblings, and three of his siblings are rappers now as well.
Now he is based in Morocco and France.

In 2022 he released an album: LES DERNIÈRES VOLONTÉS DE MOZART (symphony). It’s 18 songs that combine elements of classical music with contemporary hip-hop and rap styles. One of songs SEYA is a feature with Morad and SativaMusic. The song has an afro beat that carries the song throughout.
Maitre Gims has been known to reference his African Heritage throughout his discography as it is an intricate part of his identity
