Nadia Nakai, a Zimbabwean-South African rap artist, has music that can speak to people in a way that can be relatable. The specific song that I chose for this post is called “Kreatures”. I like this song because you can see the different components and types of music incorporated. Some parts of this song are just sung instead of the whole thing being straight rapping all the way through. Another thing that I would like to point out is that in this specific piece of music, her flow is louder than the music. By that I mean she annunciates her words and you can understand what she is saying. There is none of that mumble rap stuff. I like that a lot, it helps me to enjoy the music and the message that is trying to be communicated. I feel like this song is slower than most rap songs I have ever heard. This appeals to me because there is a slower beat and flow gives it a sense of an RnB feel, which ties back to my first point of there being different components of music. The video that goes along with this sound is interesting. I feel like it keeps you engaged in the aspect that there is always something to watch or look at. There are not many crazy effects, just Ms. Nadia Nakai in different shots and different elements as she is rapping. My favorite look would have to be when she is in all white, in an all white room and there is hair everywhere. The hair is also attached to her gives the illusion or the idea that correlates to the song. It makes her look like some creature (Kreature). Overall I enjoyed this song and the visual that went with it was fitting. I would listen to more of her.
