Khaligraph x Dax Crossover of the Century

By: Julia Kimwei

African rappers you need to get up on your feet, rep your people, your city, your home, when you gon’ realize that it’s time already.” – Khaligraph

Hiroshima by Khaligraph Jones featuring Dax is a jaw-dropping cross-over. Khaligraph strongly represents Kenyan by coming in strong with an upbeat and enticing flow. The rapper is well-known for his unique style, and in this crossover, he represented Kenya in an amazing light. His confidence is prevalent throughout his opening bars, which is no surprise to his known and reputable songs. A lot of homage to Kenya he makes is prevalent in his lyrics, yet have to be deciphered due to his fast flow. And at the same time, he showcases his confidence in his rap abilities and further encourages other African rappers to rep their city.

Khaligraph Jones

I believe that it’s very powerful to remember your roots and pay homage to where you came from. The torch proceeds to get passed on to Dax who carries it with great power. Dax is known for his lyrical storytelling that reaches the hearts of many. He ranges from very sad emotions, to very intense angry ones. In Hiroshima, Dax comes forward with very intense emotions. His pride doesn’t come from a place of arrogance, rather, admiration for his roots. This common theme is shown from both of the artists in their lyrics. Dax reps his roots and puts his confidence in the forefront. The visuals in this track are very beautiful. There is an emphasis on paying homage to the home countries of Khaligraph and Dax. A powerful shot that stood out to me was the flags beside each other. It further showcased the cross-over that’s the focal point of the song. The vibrant colors jump through the screen, and the edits emphasize the powerful and intense emotions that the lyrics carry. Overall this track is one that is very monumental and should be viewed by the masses.
