Africa is the future of hip-hop. It’s 54 African nations. Not only are they spitting like crazy, but they’re also braiding languages. Hip-hop is going to like 3.0 when you talk about Africa. Hip-hop is there. So that’s the sustaining power if you want to pay attention to it. – Chuck D

Sarkodie to the world

Michael Owusu Addo also known as Sarkodie is a Ghanaian hip-hop artist from Tema. His birthday is July 10, 1985, making him 36 years old. His hard work and contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him many awards, one being the first-ever winner of BET’s Best International Flow act at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards. Sarkodie’s iconic and amazing stage presence has given him the chance to perform on platforms with notable international acts including T‐Pain, Trey Songz, Mavado amongst others. Due to his great skills and looks, he has gotten himself a huge following on different social media platforms.

The song I heard from him was called Non-Living thing. In the song, it talked about how he is having a problem with his girlfriend and he thought it was going to be forever, but he realized that without her he is a “Non-Living Thing”. The song has two languages incorporated into it, English and Twi. One thing I love about artists is when they stay attached to their roots and make an effort to show where they are from and try to merge it with something new to bring in a bigger audience, which is something he does very well.

Another thing I admire about Sarkodie is how much he gives back to his community and the underprivileged. He made The Sarkodie Foundation which is a non-profit organization with the goal of supporting and inspiring underprivileged children. They have done things like provided thousands of kids with bags of rice, yogurt, and beverage cans, they have even given away school bags, water bottles, hats, and other items. This not only shows that he is a good role model but he is also genuine and cares for others.
