Elohor Eva Alordiah

Elohor Eva Alordiah aka Eva Alordiah is a Nigerian rapper from Delta State, Nigeria. Eva’s mother introduced her to music at a young age. Eva’s musical influences are Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sade Adu, The Carpenters, John Lennon, and Don Williams. But it was Eminem’s “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” that inspired Eva to pursue a rap career.

This song came out in 2002 and was in Eminem’s album titled, The Eminem Show.

“Over the years hip hop has evolved from its historic social justice advocacy to a brand that is replete with themes that project hypermasculinity, violence, drug use, misogyny, homophobia, and sexual objectification of women. These themes can be classified as themes of hegemonic masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity is the pattern of practice that allows men’s dominance over women to continue.

This practice also includes the idea that women are men’s sexual objects and the prowess of masculinity is validated by the woman. They are even objectified through lyrics and dressings in music videos as tools for the man’s lecherous pleasure. This gender presentation is also seen in Nigerian hip-hop as well. The ideal man is portrayed as hypermasculine and heterosexual while women are seen as inferior and sexual objects of men’s fantasies. Women are also portrayed as greedy, self-indulgent, contextualized as an “other”, and compared to inanimate objects”.

With hip-hop being a male-dominated industry it is always nice to see women MCs that are confident and aren’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers! On January 1st, 2020, Eva dropped a song titled, “FRIEND OR FOE”.

In her video, everybody is looking fierce, dressed in nice ankara tops and outfits. No one is naked but somehow someway the women are still able to show off their true beauty. *Cough Cough*

Throughout “FRIEND OR FOE”, Eva raps about letting her work speak for herself. She mentions her successful career and how she has so much money that she has no clue what to do with it. She also mentions how she doesn’t have time for fake people in her life. She mentions that she is bored because she’s one of the top women in hip-hop and she craves competition. She lives for a good challenge. With the lyrics and video put together, she is giving constant vim! Which is what we love to see.

The other day Eva dropped some heat on Twitter and IG!

Besides being a rapper Eva is also a make-up artist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. Regardless of what she is doing, we know she puts her all into her work and I can’t wait to hear more of her music in the future.
