Tiwa Savage- Nigerian Artist (Nigeria)

Tiwatope Savage-Balogun, better known by her stage name Tiwa Savage, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, performer and actress. She currently has a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Savage signed a recording contract with Mavin Records in 2012. Her stage presence is very noticeable through her fashion, accessories and, hair. I was oblivious of Tiwa Savage before coming into this class, however now looking at her work she is a very popular artist. With over 20 million views on YouTube with her song, All Over, she is shown as a fashion icon and a huge influencer in mainstream music in Nigeria. I would say Tiwa can be similar to Beyonce and in her early stage in music. She has performed with multiple mainstream artist, The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child, Mary J Blige, and, many others.

In her most popular music videos, Tiwa uses a mix of her native language and English. I believe she uses the mix to reach out to a multiple audience. The song that she mostly has are love songs, and they are very upbeat. Her songs are great for clubs and parties, while she does use many African dances within her music videos. Some of her most popular songs are All Over, My Darlin’ and Ma Lo. The genres she falls under is Afropunk, R&B, and soul. She has a common theme in her music which is an upbeat tempo, love, and beauty. One of my favorite songs by her is Sugarcane. It’s a very vibrant, fashion forward, and a dance anthem. The vibe of the music video gives off happiness and carefree rhymes. The song immediately captures us with a hook, which is a common format used in many Hip Hop and pop songs. What I want from Tiwa Savage is her clothing! I found a new artist that I will continue to follow after this assignment. I can’t wait to see what she gives us next.
