Bataka Squad is a hip hop group from Uganda. They began rapping in the early 90’s and have seen many members come and go. They have performed in the US and surrounding African countries. Bataka Squad rap in their native language, they want people to know who they are and where they come from. The word “bataka” means
“native” in Lugandan. The members of the group embrace their African-ness and still manage to keep the group together. Bataka Squad have appeared in the documentary Diamonds in the Rough: A Ugandan Hip Hop Revolution.
